Busch Stadium St. Louis

Busch Stadium is located in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The stadium is the home of the city’s Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise, the St. Louis Cardinals. It opened in 2006, replacing Busch Memorial Stadium, which was also home to the Cardinals from 1967 to 2005.

A brief history of Busch Stadium

The first Stadium was home to the St. Louis Cardinals from 1966-2005. The stadium was originally built as a replacement for Sportsman’s Park, which the Cardinals had called home since 1920. The new stadium was designed by architect Edward Durell Stone and cost $28 million to build. It had a seating capacity of 43,875 and was the first stadium in baseball to have an all-plastic playing surface.

The Cardinals played their first game at stadium on May 12, 1966, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 4-3. The stadium quickly became known as a “pitcher’s park” due to its large dimensions and AstroTurf playing surface. In 1968, the Cardinals became the first team in baseball to install Astroturf in their stadium.

Other improvements include wider concourses, more concessions and restrooms, and better sightlines. The most significant change, however, is the addition of 24,000 square feet of club space, which includes the new Cardinals clubhouse, a business center, and an expanded Cardinals Museum.
